Acme & Deepwater Connectors

The Acme and Deepwater Connectors are vital links in our regional trail network, providing safe, accessible routes for residents and visitors to explore Northern Michigan’s natural beauty, businesses, and recreational opportunities.

The Acme Connector

Completed in October 2022, the Acme Connector is a 2-mile trail that links the TART Trail’s current terminus at Bunker Hill Road to the intersection of M-72 and US-31 in Acme. A key component of the Nakwema Trailway’s southernmost segment, this trail was designed and built in partnership with the Acme Township Parks and Trails Committee and TART Trails.

Features:

  • Asphalt and boardwalk trail segments
  • Shared road sections
  • A culvert and a bridge
  • Thoughtful landscaping
  • Wayfinding signage
  • Trailside amenities including benches and bike racks

With a planned lifespan of 20+ years, the trail includes a maintenance endowment to ensure its long-term sustainability. This important connection enhances access to local businesses, existing trails, and recreation areas, including the Acme Meijer store and Grand Traverse Town Center development.

The Deepwater Connector

Building on the success of the Acme Connector, the Deepwater Connector provides an essential link between Bayside Park, the Acme Connector Trail, and Acme Road. Following a scenic route along Acme Creek, this trail offers non-motorized access to the Deepwater Point Natural Area via shared roadway. It connects neighborhoods and businesses to a 100-mile regional trail network, furthering our vision for interconnected, sustainable transportation.

Project Status: As of December 2024, the Deepwater Connector is substantially complete, thanks to the generous support of our community and key funders.

Key Funders:
