On June 17, 2019, the Elk Rapids Village Council unanimously voted to support the preferred alignment of the Acme to Elk Rapids Segment of the Traverse City to Charlevoix Trail. The preferred alignment was developed through a comprehensive preliminary design process that involved significant public and stakeholder engagement and detailed engineering evaluations. The presentation of the final preliminary design plans on June 17 was the culmination of work that began last summer to develop a trail route and the costs associated with its construction between Acme Township and Elk Rapids.
