Acme Connector

The 2 mile Acme Connector connects the TART Trail and Acme, providing safe access to businesses, existing trails, and recreation opportunities.

The trail connects the current TART Trail terminus at Bunker Hill Road to the intersection of M-72 and US-31 in Acme. A section of the trail runs east toward the Acme Meijer store and Grand Traverse Town Center development. The 2 mile trail will help residents and visitors safely access businesses, existing trails, and recreation opportunities.

This is the southernmost segment of the Nakwema Trailway. Trail planning and design have been spearheaded by the Acme Township Parks and Trails committee in partnership with TART Trails.

COMPLETE!

Last summer, thanks to a matching challenge provided by the Oleson Foundation, Tri-County Bicycle Association-DALMAC Fund, and Aspire North Realtors®, the Nakwema Trailway project team successfully raised funds to construct the Acme Connector.

Project partners supported Acme Township Parks and Trails committee in finalizing trail design and implementing a construction contract with Team Elmers in February. Site work began in early April.

Acme trail team, donors, government partners and local residents gathered celebrate this momentous milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony in early May. Construction wrapped up in October 2022.

The Trail

Trail planning and design have been spearheaded by the Acme Township Parks and Trails committee in partnerships with TART Trails. The Acme Connector includes:

  • asphalt and boardwalk trail segments
  • shared road segments
  • a culvert
  • a bridge
  • landscaping
  • wayfinding signage
  • and trailside amenities including benches and bike racks

Included in the project budget is a maintenance endowment. Properly maintained, the trail is expected to last 20+ years. The Acme Connector was completed October 2022.
